The perfect duvet
Natural hair, natural fibre, functional fibre or rather feathers?
Duvets are available in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and filling materials. From camel fluff, bamboo, silk, cashmere, down and cotton to synthetic materials such as microfibre and virgin sheep's wool - the filling materials couldn't be more different. But which filling is good for restful sleep?
At SAMINA, we have been researching healthy sleep since 1989 and we can rightly claim to have tested all natural materials for bedding fillings, all of which differ in terms of their properties, advantages and disadvantages. The most common filling materials include
-
Synthetic fibres: these are made from artificial materials such as polyester, microfibre or hollow fibre. They are cheap, easy to care for, washable, allergy-friendly and retain their shape. However, they are also less breathable, less moisture-regulating, less natural and less durable than natural fibres. Due to the chemical treatment, the poor bed climate properties and not least for reasons of environmental protection, SAMINA does not use any synthetic materials. Nature does it better than we humans could ever replicate.
-
Down and feathers: They are very light, soft and cosy and have high thermal insulation and bulkiness. However, they are also susceptible to mites, allergies and odours and require regular care and cleaning. Above all, the supposed advantage of high thermal insulation prevents healthy and deep sleep. This is because down and feathers usually cause a build-up of heat, which we unconsciously compensate for by frequently covering up and tucking in. We often don't realise it, but the quality of our sleep suffers measurably as a result.
-
Natural fibres: They come from plant or animal sources such as cotton, linen, camel hair, sheep's wool or silk. They are breathable, moisture-regulating, skin-friendly and environmentally friendly. They are generally more expensive, heavier and less washable than synthetic fibres. However, they also fulfil the most important requirements for a healthy bed climate and therefore for healthy and restful sleep.
Pure new sheep's wool has proved particularly effective, especially in its biologically active form, i.e. untreated and only gently cleaned. Of all the materials we analysed, it is the only filling material that meets the requirements of Bioenergetic Sleep®.
Why virgin sheep's wool for healthy sleep?
At SAMINA, we rely on the power of pure and bioactive new sheep's wool. Sheep have been defying wind, weather and cold for thousands of years. Their thick wool keeps them warm and protects them from the elements. Our SAMINA virgin sheep's wool comes from live sheep in the Allgäu region and is obtained and cleaned using particularly gentle processes. This is the only way to ensure that the unique and exceptional properties of the virgin sheep's wool fibre are not destroyed.
Pure new sheep's wool has climate-regulating properties that make it the ideal filling for pillows and duvets. Our virgin sheep's wool comes from sheep from the Allgäu Alps (Germany) and is shorn and cleaned by hand.A chemical cleaning process would destroy the lanolin (wool grease) in the natural virgin sheep's wool. However, lanolin is responsible for the high self-cleaning power of virgin sheep's wool and makes this possible in the first place.Pure new sheep's wool can also absorb around 30 per cent of its own weight in excess moisture. This is then quickly released back into the room air. This property supports a dry and warm bed climate. This is because every person releases both heat and moisture at night through skin and breath evaporation. The release of heat is influenced by various factors and is not constant and uniform. Sleepwear, bedding and room climate play a decisive role. Age, diet, gender and stress also play a role. A microclimatic function test can be used to measure heat emission.
Duvets from SAMINA
A duvet from SAMINA stands for 100% quality, 100% craftsmanship, 100% sustainability and 100% nature. The natural and cosy materials ensure luxurious, dreamlike sleeping comfort. Our duvets are available in standard sizes and also in customised sizes on request. Our duvets are all made by hand. This has several advantages: on the one hand, the valuable properties of the natural fibres are not destroyed, and on the other hand, we can guarantee the highest quality. Manual processing also means that we can completely dispense with chemical additives and binding agents. The elaborate hand finishing with cross-stitching prevents the wool fleece from slipping and also prevents cold bridges, which often occur with stitched seams. Every SAMINA Schlaf-Gesund product, including our duvets, is produced at our production site in Frastanz (Vorarlberg, Austria). We consciously attach great importance to regional, environmentally friendly and sustainable production. That is why we have been producing CO2 neutral since 2015. The name SAMINA guarantees a unique, one-of-a-kind product and a piece of health.
The SAMINA duvet range
Because not everyone has the same need for warmth and this is also strongly dependent on the seasons, we have a large selection of different duvets and duvets (e.g. baby duvet) in our range. The classic SAMINA duvet is the SAMINA Classic four-season duvet. This combines the SAMINA spring/autumn duvet and the SAMINA summer duvet to create a cosy, warm duvet for cold winter nights. Thanks to the knotting technique, the two duvets can be quickly and easily knotted together to create the SAMINA four-season duvet. The SAMINA four-season duvet is a pure virgin sheep's wool dream with a filling weight of approx. 2800 grams (140 x 200 cm) or just under 3200 grams for a duvet size of 160 x 200 cm.
If the SAMINA Four Seasons / 4 Seasons Classic duvet is too hot for you, you can also combine the SAMINA Spring and Autumn duvet with the light and airy SAMINA Summer Night's Dream duvet to create a SAMINA Four Seasons Light duvet.
As the name suggests, the SAMINA spring and autumn duvet gently accompanies the sleeper through the spring and autumn seasons. Here too, the filling of pure new sheep's wool ensures an optimum, dry and warm bed climate. Did you know that house dust mites cannot survive in a dry and warm bed climate? This makes pure new sheep's wool an ideal filling material, especially for house dust allergy sufferers.
The SAMINA summer duvet is the perfect companion for warm summer nights. Pure new sheep's wool absorbs excess moisture, such as perspiration caused by high temperatures, quickly and safely. Thanks to its climate-regulating properties, pure new sheep's wool has a pleasantly cooling effect. Pure new wool is also extremely breathable.
The airy, light SAMINA summer night blanket ensures truly pleasant summer night dreams. A touch of pure new sheep's wool gently accompanies you through the night. The light summer dream blanket is also ideal as a travelling blanket. The low filling weight makes it perfect for every suitcase and every journey..
