Feng Shui in the bedroom
Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese doctrine that deals with the harmonisation of people and their environment. The aim of Feng Shui is to promote the flow of life energy, also known as Qi, and to avoid negative influences. The location, shape, colour, material and furnishings of the room play an important role in this.
In this story, Feng Shui consultant Joseph Chen explains how you can furnish your bedroom according to Feng Shui to create a restful sleep and a harmonious atmosphere.
A visit to a feng shui consultant
It was a sunny afternoon when we rang the doorbell of feng shui consultant Joseph Chen. Joseph is a well-known Feng Shui consultant who has helped many people to create more harmonious and energising living spaces. We wanted to interview him for an article on Feng Shui in the bedroom as we had heard that he knew many tips and tricks on how to improve your sleep and relaxation with the help of Feng Shui. Joseph Chen opened the door and greeted us warmly. He led us into his living room, which was cosy and tastefully furnished. He offered us a cup of tea and asked us to sit down on the sofa.
SAMINA: Mr Chen, thank you very much for taking the time to talk to us. We are a global leader in healthy sleep, based on holistic principles, with decades of expertise in sleep research. Eastern concepts are still often neglected in the Western world, but we recognise how powerful a combination of both worlds can be. We are very curious to know how you have furnished your bedroom according to Feng Shui. Can you tell us something about it?
Joseph Chen: With pleasure! For me, the bedroom is the most important room in the house, because it's where I spend a large part of my life. I can relax, recuperate and regenerate in the bedroom. That's why I make sure that my bedroom is designed according to Feng Shui to create a restful sleep and a harmonious atmosphere.
SAMINA: What does your bedroom look like?
Joseph Chen: My bedroom is relatively simple and minimalist. I only have the most essential furniture and decorations so as not to clutter or disturb the space. My bed is made from natural materials such as wood, cotton and wool, which have no harmful vapours and neutralise life energy. My bed has a high headboard that gives me protection and stability. The head end of my bed is against a solid wall, which provides me with support and security. The wall has no water or power lines that could influence the electromagnetic field. My bed is positioned so that I have a view of the door and window, but am not lying directly in front of them. This creates a feeling of control and trust. My bed is positioned in the centre of the room to have a balanced distance to the side walls. This promotes balance and symmetry in the room.
SAMINA: This is very thoughtful and we can emphasise these points. Do the colours in the bedroom have an influence according to Feng Shui? If so, what colours did you choose for your bedroom?
Joseph Chen: The colours in my bedroom are soft, pastel and earthy. They belong to the elements of wood, earth or metal, which are associated with the bedroom. These elements symbolise growth, stability and purity. The colours radiate calm and security. They are harmoniously coordinated to create a harmonious overall impression. They take into account my personal preferences and needs in order to create an individual feel-good zone. The colours reflect my personality and temperament and balance out my strengths and weaknesses.
SAMINA: That sounds very much like the colour scheme in our manufactory, where only natural materials are used. What bedroom decorations did you use?
Joseph Chen: The bedroom decoration in my bedroom is discreet and symmetrical. It consists of natural materials such as wood, ceramics, fabric or paper, all free from harmful chemicals. I only want natural materials in my environment, especially at night. All objects convey positive, inspiring and personal values that make me happy. I need my surroundings to be neat, tidy and clean. This ensures that my mind immediately enters a calm state as soon as I enter my bedroom in the evening.
SAMINA: We assume that you do without electronic devices?
Joseph Chen: That is correct. According to the teachings of Feng Shui, electronics have no place in the bedroom and would only cause unrest. The bedroom should only be used for relaxation and we should organise the environment in such a way that our mind can set itself up for relaxation as soon as we enter the bedroom. This allows us to switch to a relaxation mode much more quickly, which speeds up falling asleep and improves our sleep behaviour at night.
SAMINA: How do you apply the principle of feng shui emptiness in your bedroom?
Joseph Chen: The principle of feng shui emptiness states that you should create an empty space in any room to make room for new energy and possibilities. This is especially true for the bedroom, because this is where we want to free ourselves from old burdens, worries and fears and open ourselves up to new experiences, dreams and goals. That's why I've created an empty area in my bedroom that makes up about a quarter of the room. This area is free of furniture, decorations or other objects. It is only covered with a carpet in the colour of the earth element. For me, this area symbolises the emptiness, clarity and calm that I seek in my bedroom. It helps me to relax, meditate and sleep.
SAMINA: Very inspiring. The founder of SAMINA, Prof Amann-Jennson, is also a great connoisseur of Feng Shui teachings and has incorporated many principles into product development. In this case, SAMINA would be the right choice for anyone who wants to optimise their bedroom according to Feng Shui. Mr Chen, thank you very much for showing and explaining your bedroom according to Feng Shui. It is not a matter of course that people let you look into these "sacred" chambers.
Joseph Chen: It was a pleasure. I hope I was able to give you a good impression of Feng Shui in the bedroom. I wish all readers a good night's sleep and a harmonious atmosphere in their bedroom.
