Day of sleep
The Day of Sleep takes place at the same time as the summer solstice. This is an initiative from Germany that aims to draw attention to the great importance of our sleep. The founders Ulrich Zipper and Jan-Hendrik Pauls realised how little knowledge about sleep was (and still is) widespread among the population. As a result, the day of action was launched on 21 June 2000 in the old German Bundestag in Bonn under the motto "Disturbed sleep - consequences for the modern meritocracy". Since then, the day of action has been held annually.
What is different about the day of sleep?
The day of sleep is the day of the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. At the same time, we experience the shortest night of the year. This is precisely why it is important to take enough time for a restful sleep on this night. That means:

Going to bed in good time so that you can spend at least 8 hours in bed before getting up.

Finish exciting and strenuous activities at least two hours before going to bed and relax.

Avoid alcohol, nicotine and other stimulants as much as possible.
If you then avoid a heavy dinner and instead eat something light that doesn't put too much strain on your digestion, if you dim the lights to create the right mood for falling asleep and if you keep your bedroom dark, quiet and as cool as possible, you will wake up the next morning feeling much more rested.
Good sleep means a healthy mind
Those who sleep well and restfully are doing something good for body and mind. Sleep is the foundation of our health and sets the course for a healthy future. Your body performs enormously every day and works at full speed. In order to cope with all this, to process the impressions of the day and to recharge the empty batteries, it needs a healthy night's sleep. Nevertheless, this important topic has not yet been fully recognised by the general public. That's why we welcome the healthy sleep initiative.
Day of Sleep, World Sleep Day, Festival of Sleep and co.
Initiatives such as the international World Sleep Day, the American Festival of Sleep and the German Day of Sleep all have one goal: to raise awareness of the need for restful and healthy sleep. The aim is to reduce the burden of sleep problems on society through more effective prevention and treatment. As a result, people can concentrate better during the day, regenerate more sustainably and counteract physical, mental and emotional fatigue. Entire days of the year are therefore dedicated to this important topic at international and national level.
